Broadcast Center Communications Training (BCCT)
One of the most important facets of Broadcast Center’s education has always been communication training. Broadcasters working in performance-based positions must know how to effectively communicate information to listeners or viewers. Effective communication means communicating the information to the intended audience in a very clear and concise way.
Excellent communication skills are not just for broadcasters. These skills are also highly valued in all types of jobs and positions. Whether you work for a large corporation, an average sized business or are self employed with a home-based business, the ability to effectively communicate with your colleagues and customers is vitally essential for your success.
According to a recent survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the top personal quality sought by employers is excellent communication skills, ranking even higher than written or computer skills. Communication skills are also at the top of the list of criteria in selecting employees for management positions and promotions.
Employers desire employees who can interact effectively and productively on behalf of their company. They need employees who can accurately convey crucial information, and who can engage in constructive debate in meetings. Any shortcomings inhibit the company’s ability to meet the needs of the team and the client resulting in missed revenue. The competitive reality of today’s marketplace demands winning communication from employees.
However, most people are never taught how to improve their communication skills. Many people struggle with verbal communication and are unable to clearly communicate their thoughts and concepts to others, limiting their effectiveness in their jobs and their ability to advance into management or higher paying positions.
Broadcast Center’s Communications Training (BCCT) program was designed specifically to meet the needs of employers and employees to provide them with the basics of developing better communication skills.
BCCT is a four week course that focuses on teaching individuals to:
• Communicate more clearly, effectively and dynamically.
• Demand listener attention.
• Improve and enhance their vocabulary.
• Communicate with confidence.
BCCT enrollees are coached in a one-on-one environment by St. Louis area professional broadcasters, with over 200 years of cumulative experience as professional communicators.
The BCCT program is four weeks in length consisting of two two-hour sessions per week. Since training is one-on-one, scheduling is flexible: you set your hours. Also, BCCT allows and encourages all enrollees the option of attending an additional four hours after the completion of the training (within three months of completing the BCCT program) to ‘refresh’ their training and evaluate their progress, if they choose.
All trainees receive a BCCT Handbook that outlines policies and procedures and contains all of the lesson plans and exercises for the course. In addition, trainees receive a one hour “Performance Training” DVD which provides interactive demonstration both on the mental and physical aspects of voice and communication. They will also receive their first and last recordings, to document their progress.
