There is certainly a long list of reasons why Broadcast Center's education results in students going to work in radio and television jobs. One of those reasons is the hard work and effort each student receives from the dedicated staff of instructors.

Instructors are working professionals

Broadcast Center instructors are working professionals currently employed in the broadcast industry at St. Louis area radio and television stations. This means you learn from instructors who are employed in the industry in jobs where they're doing the things they're teaching you to do. There are no "college professor" types who have never actually worked in broadcasting or if they have worked in the industry, it was many, many years ago.

Broadcast Center - the effective college alternative

Broadcast Center has nothing against colleges or college professors in general. Traditional colleges and universities can be excellent resources for learning many things, such as engineering, economics, or accounting. Quite often, however, they're not designed or equipped to effectively train students for broadcasting jobs.

For example, a well-known local college offers a course on audio editing, but students taking the course find themselves learning editing with analog audio tape and reel to reel machines! Audio tape based equipment hasn't been used in professional broadcast facilities since the early 90's.

Therefore, it's no surprise that a significant percentage of applicants to Broadcast Center already have a degree in broadcasting or have taken some broadcast related college courses. Usually, when they contact us, it's the same story: "I have a degree, I got great grades in college, but I can't seem to get a job". And usually during our evaluation we find that even though they have very good knowledge of the history of broadcasting, they clearly haven't received adequate practical skills training or voice development.

There is one notable exception, however. Fontbonne University in St. Louis offers a communications degree with a concentration in broadcasting where students take all of their broadcasting courses at Broadcast Center. This is perhaps the best available option for someone wanting a degree that includes a practical and usable education focusing on the development of broadcasting skills.

Preparing you for today's broadcasting jobs

Broadcasting is always changing and evolving. By having instructors who are currently a part of the industry professionally, you're assured that the training you get from Broadcast Center is always fresh and current so you can be prepared for today's jobs in radio and tv. Broadcast Center instructors are always bringing in new ideas that are quickly incorporated into the curriculum.

Broadcast Center instructors are enormously dedicated toward getting results. - to take students with the desire and motivation to succeed and transform them into professional broadcasters. In fact, most of the Broadcast Center instructors are graduates of the school from many years ago. They've returned to Broadcast Center to work as instructors as a way of "giving something back" - to help point students in the right direction toward a successful and rewarding career in the industry. Each week we receive letters and email from graduates thanking the instructors for all of their hard work and effort.

Broadcast Center is intentionally a fairly small school and will always remain that way. This means that every instructor knows every student personally including each student's individual strengths and weaknesses, and each student's ultimate career goals. Students develop professional relationships with the staff and instructors that continue far beyond graduation.

As a student at Broadcast Center, you can be absolutely assured that you'll be learning from the best!
